How to Take Care of your NDS Cards

by Mary Bush

If you are an avid Nintendo DS user then there is a great chance that you own more than one Nintendo DS (NDS) card. While NDS cards are relatively cheaper compared to other cards, you would want to take care of it as it contains nearly priceless data and gaming information. Many people do not know how to take care of their NDS cards, this result into losing valuable data and needing to buy another one for their Nintendo DS. So if you are looking for tips on how you can take care of your NDS Cards:

1. NDS Cards are not indestructible

They are made with durable material but it doesn’t mean that they are indestructible. They are sturdy but nothing can withstand severe pressure from a huge amount of mass, let’s say your car. If it incidentally fell off your hands and a car passes above it, don’t expect it not to be crushed or at least cracked. The best way to avoid this to happen is not to take out your NDS card in unsecure places.

2. NDS Cards are not waterproof

While their backs are made with plastics, the chips that really store memory are made with metallic alloy that are sensitive to water (and other liquids for that matter). Don’t let it get wet with water. If you are throwing off clothes to your washing machine, be sure that your NDS card is not in your pocket. If you forget it and then the clothes get washed, expect the NDS card to be unusable.

3. NDS Cards are not acidproof

NDS Cards will react to most acids and other chemicals. So you better be careful when removing it from your Nintendo DS, any slight mishandling can render your card damage. If it falls on the group in your high school lab and then by all means wipe it out fast. If it didn’t touch the acids on the floor yet, then your are lucky, if it already did, then you can say goodbye to your precious NDS card and the data that it contains.

4. NDS Cards will react to magnet

Remember when we told you that the part of the NDS card that stores data is made of metallic alloy? It means that it will react to metal. And just like ordinary credit cards and ATM cards, excessive magnetism can misalign the chips codes present in your NDS card. When that happens, you will have scramble code, translated as corrupted and unusable data. These are just a few tips and basic knowledge on how you can protect your NDS card. It’s not about the price, it’s about the memory and file that you store in those cards. Remember that there are some things that money can’t buy!

Cell Phone Safety While Driving

by katie George

An estimated 9 million drivers in the U.S. alone are believed to use their cell phones while driving. This almost unbelievably high number of users is worrying when you consider the number of users that are not using a hands-free device while on the phone. In the U.S. several cities, and even states, have now banned the use of a cell phone while driving; unless the driver incorporates a hands-free device.

In New York State it is illegal to drive and talk on a cell phone without a hands-free device. In Flower Mound, Texas, it is now illegal to drive through a school zone while talking on a cell phone without a hands-free device.

Many countries around the world, the United Kingdom & South Africa to name two, have banned the use of mobile phones while driving; all in the name of safety.

The data to support the dangers of cell phone usage while driving is somewhat mixed; but there is no doubt that any form of distraction while behind the wheel is a serious concern.

Consider the following safety tips to help keep you, your passengers, and your fellow drivers safe on the road.

When possible avoid making or answering calls during bad weather; rain, snow or even high winds can be hazardous enough on their own without the added complication of you being distracted!

Sitting in rush hour traffic during your morning and afternoon commute is certainly incredibly boring, but the distraction of making calls in heavy traffic can be very dangerous. A large majority of fatalities on the road happen during the morning and afternoon rush hours; do your part to avoid an accident!

If you absolutely must make or answer a phone call while driving, and you do not have a hands-free device or kit consider asking your passenger to help.

Speed-dial or speak-dial features can be very useful when driving. The ability to either press one button to dial home or to simply say “Home” can greatly reduce your need to look away from the road.

Hands Free Kits

A hands free device or kit allows you the freedom to drive safely with both hands on the wheel. A few years ago the devices were of really poor quality, making cell phone users rather reluctant to use them. Technology has now improved to the point that you can often hear better through the hands free device than you can through the earpiece on your cell phone.

Bluetooth devices are rapidly gaining in popularity. A Bluetooth wireless device eliminates the need to carry the phone; a small earpiece that fits over your ear it transmits a signal over short distances to your mobile phone. It is a simple procedure to get your Bluetooth device to sync with your phone, a lot of phones are now programmed to detect when there is a Bluetooth device in close proximity.

Teenagers & Driving

Knowing that your teenager is on the road is a scary enough proposition for a parent, but knowing that your teenager is also texting or talking excessively on their cell phone while driving can be nightmarish. Be sure to communicate important safety guides to your teenager before letting them behind the wheel with their cell phone.

The Concept of Paper Shredding

by Mary Bush

People having private or company confidential information that has outlived its intended purpose, would still be useful to unauthorized personnel; or even a competitor. Even if they try to just dispose these documents by crumpling and throwing in the trash or the print has become too light, it would be still be readable by the snoopers. Some people also do spend money to purchase packing materials to maintain confidential customer account records like credit and payment history, credit applications or employee records like medical, performance reviews, salary files, etc. According to the Privacy act, it clearly specifies proper handling, storage and destruction procedures. Violation of which can result in civil or criminal penalties.

Organizations having records which are short-lived such as reports drafts or cumulative sales data which is disposed of with subsequent revisions; The United States Supreme Court ruling in California vs. Greenwood deems disposed documents as public domain. The responsibility for maintaining privacy clearly rests in the hands of the company or individual.

It is interesting to note that businesses are required to retain certain records for varying periods of time. However, should records be requested for a government investigation, all records on hand must be produced, not just those covered under the retention guidelines. The shredding of records as they exceed retention periods makes good business sense.

Where there is an issue on the amount of floor space devoted to records storage, the cost of office space is continuing to rise with no end in sight. Filing cabinets full of obsolete records are costly to keep.

Organizations managing microfilm, microfiche, or optical storage devices as part of a records management program usually have questions like what is the disposition of the document originals once microfilmed. And what disposal method is used when a microfilm/microfiche file becomes outdated or obsolete?

Companies having a voluntary or mandatory office paper recycling program, does or does not know that the pages being collected for disposal are a golden opportunity for anyone, company insider or not, seeking to obtain private information.

The Benefits Of Having Direct TV Satellite

by katie George

When looking for an internet service provider, you will want to consider Direct TV satellite for your ISP needs and all your television needs. The time has come where many people are looking for a way to combine expenses of television and internet service costs together to save money. If you are using a dial up connection or a cable connection, you are paying for both services that are not giving you the service and speed of satellite. The monthly charge for Direct TV satellite with an Internet service will save you more money and give you a better service.

Your Internet connection speed is going to impress anyone who has had dial up or cable. The basic package gives you speeds of seven hundred Kbps to two Mbps, which is going to be up to one hundred and fifty times faster than regular dial up. This means you will open pages faster than with dial up and connection to the Internet is instant with no waiting. The Internet satellite system is going to give you incredible speed and downloads are done in a matter of seconds depending on the size of the file you are downloading.

The advantages of having Direct TV satellite Internet service are endless. You no longer need a phone line to access the Internet and you can connect multiple computers to a single Internet connection. You will have no down payment and the service is sometimes more affordable than what you are paying for cable or dial up service. Satellite signal comes through the Direct TV dish, which means you will have a TV signal and an Internet satellite signal all coming in on one dish. High speed Internet does not get any better when you choose a satellite connection.

One important thing to know about Internet satellite systems is that Direct TV satellite is not an Internet service provider, they work with Hugesnet, which works with ISP companies to give you the fastest connection possible. For instance, Wisconsin residents in the east central part of the state would only have one service provider to choose. However, this one provider does offer three different speed connection packages. The lowest speed is five hundred and twelve Kbps up to fifteen hundred Kbps, which is the top package. The Internet service provider does work with Direct TV satellite to give you the best broadband connection in your area.

There are no disadvantages of having Direct TV satellite with a broadband connection. As long as you are receiving a signal from the dish, you will have a connection. It is very rare for the signal to be lost. If you live in a remote area with no cable service, Direct TV will be your best option for Internet and TV service. Home workers are finding out that more and more companies are allowing satellite Internet as a way to work at home via the Internet, which makes it easier for more people to work from home to make money for their families. It is always going to be better than dial up, which remote areas were limited to before. You will see a big difference in the performance of your computers when you have broadband.

Database Design Basics

by Mary Bush

As with any project, taking time to plan ahead now will save you and your business a lot of time down the road. A common mistake with database development is that the designer fails to think ahead. This usually leads to the development of a database that is unable to handle all the needs of the company. Unfortunately, once a database is created and implemented, it is very hard to go back and make changes. This is why planning ahead is so crucial. I have provided a few tips below that will help you to avoid these common mistakes. With a little planning and some hard work, your database will be able to work at its full potential.

Before even looking at your computer, sit down with a tablet of paper and brainstorm. Create a list of all the things that you want your database to do (i.e. inventory tracking, client contact, billing, shipping, etc.). Once you have done this, create a sub-list for each of the items you came up with from the previous step. This list should include any items or useful information that will need to be collected. For example, if you would like to track shipping, you will probably want to collect information such as: date shipped, method of shipping, price of shipping, shipping details such as weight and dimensions, date delivered, etc. Remember to think ahead to what you will want to do with this information later. This information, for example, can be used to estimate shipping costs for the following year based on the previous year’s costs.

Once you have completed your list, it’s time to begin the basic design of the database. At this point, many designers begin to think about form creation and reports. However, the most important step following brainstorming is in developing your tables. Once these tables have been created, they will be difficult to change later. For this reason, take your time and make sure you have everything you need.

The next step is to test your tables. Take information that you already have available to you (previous sales logs, etc.) and see if all the information can be placed somewhere that will be easy to access. This will ensure that you can at least collect what you have already been collecting.

As a final piece of advice, add a “comment” field to your tables so that notes can be made pertaining to the data. This is especially helpful when trying to look back at information later. A simple comment can help to clarify information that might otherwise be very difficult to understand.

Getting A Usable Vintage Camera

by Mary Bush

You can certainly get a nice usable vintage Leica for $500 or less. However, you need to understand a few things before you choose one. Leitz made two different systems of 35mm rangefinder cameras.

The earlier system has a mount that accepts lenses that screw into the camera body (what we call 39mm screw mount, or LTM for Leica thread mount). They introduced this system in 1930 with the Leica I(C) model, and continued it well into the 1950’s up to the classic Leica IIIg. Concurrently during the 1950’s, Leitz introduced a new system that accepts lenses with a special bayonet mount (rather than screw in, the lens is placed against the mount lined up with a red dot and a quick quarter turn locks it in place).

This is known as the M bayonet system, which started with the superb Leica M3 and continues right up to the latest M8. Okay, for $500 you want to find a classic Leica that your fiance’, who probably knows and appreciates the Leica mystique, can enjoy in his free time.

I’m talking hobby camera, not camera for his work, because a photojournalist today would be doing his job with the latest digital gear. No problem. You’re on the right track looking at the Leica IIIf. It’s a common model, with over 180,000 sold between 1950 and 1957, it accepts all the zillions of screw mount lenses Leitz made up to that time (and also early 39mm screw mount Canon, Nikon, and even many Russian made lenses), and there’s always a bunch available on eBay.

I do not recommend the Leica IIIg; although it is a better camera, collectors keep it’s price hovering in the $1000 range. I do not recommend some other common earlier models like the Leica III, IIIa, or IIIc; although they’re equally common and readily available for less money, they are also just old enough to cause a lot of trouble and frustration. Among the screw mount models, the Leica IIIf is a great choice. Find one that work! Don’t take a risk on an example that needs any sort of repair.

Look for one that has a bit of external personality (as long as there’s no overt damage, a few rub marks or gentle dings are not a problem), the seller guarantees it all works, as it should. And the Leitz Summitry is a fine fast lens, but get the Elmer 5cm f3.5 instead if you can.

Forget the original box (collectors will PUSH the price for original boxes, but there’s no advantage for you there), don’t worry about a case (they fall apart, and they sometimes cause more damage to the camera because they hold in moisture), but do try to get a proper Leitz lens cap. This is your best bet for a usable vintage Leica in the $400-$500 range.

Now if you want to bend just a bit, and you’d like to explore those later M series cameras, you can probably get a 1960-ish Leica M2 with a superb Submicron 50mm f2 lens somewhere in the $500-$600 range. All the same thoughts apply in regards to condition, etc. The biggest advantage of the M series over the old screw mount series is that if your fiance’ eventually wants to get a modern Leica (for work AND pleasure), any lenses he already has with the M2 would be interchangeable with the later camera.

The classic M3 is too desirable among collectors, the M1 has limited features, and you could consider stepping up for the M4 (actually it would have to specifically be the M4-2 because the original M4 has become quite collectible as well), but that model is the first of the “modern” designs. So there you have it, the Leica IIIf or the Leica M2, those are your best choices in your price range. Regarding your question about Leica values, in general, yes, all of them do increase in value.

The vast majority increases slightly ahead of inflation (over time, not right away), so not that terribly high, but certainly enough to equal money in the bank (and assuming you deal only in top condition). The historically significant models, and a few choice rare models, increase by much greater degrees, in some cases to the point of being ridiculous. Common models like the IIIf just seem to float along with the economy. So, in general, Leica cameras appear to be a good to excellent “investment”.

Gaming Through Computer Networking

by Mary Bush

One of the essential needs of mankind (other than food, clothing, and shelter) is entertainment. We have had many forms of entertainment since the dawn of the human race such as dancing, singing, chanting, and acting. Many of these forms of entertainment have become traditions to many cultures from across the globe. No matter what taste a society may have, they have their own form of entertainment.

People have been playing games for many reasons; some of them are to relieve them of boredom, others to escape the harsh realities of life, and some to simply relax. Regardless of what reasons they have, games have been played by everyone. The evolution of video games has come hand in hand with technological advances that may or may not be directly involved with them. We have come a long way since the days of Pac Man and Space Invader. One discipline that has helped the development of video games has been computer Networking.

Computer Networking

This is the act of connecting computers or a network of them together. This can be the connection of computers and other devices. We see this through connecting devices such as modems, webcams, fax machines, and printers to our computers.

LAN

A local area network connects computers within a room, house, or building. Gamers have experienced the advantages of playing video games that utilize computer networking. Multiplayer games such as first person shooters, real-time strategy games, and racing games have been popular amongst gamers. They have been able to play on computers that are connected, and are able to interact with each other within the game. This has made video games an increasingly social activity, unlike before when people would just play by themselves, or with just one other player at a time. With a local area network, 10-20 players are able to engage in a game at the same time.

Online games

It’s quite obvious that the Interne has forever changed the way we interact with each other. So much information can be found on the Internet, and an endless number of activities are available online as well. A lot of games nowadays are “playable” online. For this reason, gamers are able to interact with other players from all across the globe. You could be living in Ohio and be playing a shooting game with someone from Barcelona. This also spawned a new game genre called massively multiplayer online role-playing games.

More popularly known as MMORPGs, massively multiplayer online role-playing games have become really popular amongst kids, teens, and adults of all ages. It allows players to go around in a virtual world and develop a particular character. The great thing about it is that thousands of players from around the world could be playing in the same game with you at the same time. You would be able to interact with these players by trading items, dueling, teaming-up, or simply just chatting.

Computer Networking has been developing at a rapid rate, and more advancement in gaming are sure to come. All you have to do is sit back and enjoy the ride.

The Time Has Come For GSM Unlocked Cell Phones

by katie George

What is all the uproar about a GSM unlocked cell phone? Almost all the major carriers are willing to accept unlocked phones on their network. We can all say “it is about time”. With good news also comes a tad of bad news. Regrettably, cell phones like unlocked cell phones with Bluetooth or an unlocked cell phone new Nokia 7280 unlocked Bluetooth camera GSM phone can cost a lot more since they are not supported by the carriers. What this means is that you don’t get to apply discounts to the purchase of your phone in most cases.

Nokia seems to be the more fashionable cell phone manufacture with unlocked cell phones. The unlocked Nokia 3650 GSM tri band camera video phone finds itself in high demand on auction sites. Also you will find that the Nokia 6620 unlocked camera video phone GSM is extremely popular as well. Even though you find some great bargains on Nokia, they still cost more than the ones you can buy from the carrier. Occasionally they don’t offer some of the more “cool” phones.

There is something intriguing about a new Nokia 6620 unlocked GSM color camera video phone. Imagine, turning your cell phone into not only a camera phone but also a video phone. You can use the digital storage card to store your videos and transfer them to your camera. Is that cool or what? Motorola can’t be left out either. They have the sexy Motorola v3 Razr black unlocked video camera phone fighting for its share of the video camera phone market.

There are other cell phone manufactures such as Sony Ericsson. Sony Ericsson z600 blue unlocked GSM camera phone or their new unlocked Cingular v220 Motorola GSM camera phone are heavily searched for because of their cameras and video capability. In discussing Sony, you can’t leave out their Sony Ericsson z2600 blue unlocked GSM camera phone. Last but not least is the GSM 900 unlocked cell phone.

Naturally because of it high popularity there is a demand to reset unlocked iPhone. Apple is smoking hot right now with their iPhone. It only makes senses that people are looking to unlock an iPhone. Apple just recently announce the 3G iPhone. AT&T has a strange new pricing schedule to go with the use of the new iPhones. It looks like this new service price offering is going to increase the market for unlocked iPhones. Time will tell.

Nokia and Samsun seems to have a winning combination. The unlocked Samsung SGH z510 super slim GSM unlocked camera phone is reasonably price with a fair amount of features. It seems to be a good bang for your buck.

Verizon Wireless is still running their “different” network compared to the faster 3G network. The good news is that Verizon has announced they will be joining the 4G when it becomes available by 2010. This is great since many of the truly cool phones are not compatible with Verizon network. Yes, they have a solid network but it limits the use of such phones like Apple iPhone. Fortunately, Verizon has opened their network and you can bring over unlocked CDMA cell phones. This takes some of the sting out.
